Cantha Farming Disappointment
Thus far I ve seen nothing but mission and no places to solo 55 farm for materials. I think that we have seen the end of 55ing and the beginning of paying high prices for materials. This was definitely not made for farmers. But I love some of the missions. Got to Cavalon today, Yah.

The point of the game is NOT farming. Through the first few missions, playing normally and getting maybe 2 highly salvageable weapons, I have amassed nearly 200 wood planks, 200 iron ingots, 20 steel ingots, 100 piles of glittering dust, a few scales and a few of each rare crafting material.
Guild Wars Factions wasn't made for farmers, but damn, nor was Prophecies. If lining your pockets is so important to you, keep doing your 55 runs in Tyria, don't whinge because Anet didn't put in something they didn't intend for the game.

So when Anet decides to nerf 55 monking, I guess you'll be joining the recent MM ragequit people and start crying about how 55 monk is not overpowered..

^ I agree wholeheartedly.
It's been made pretty clear that the game is not meant to be all about farming. I'll wager there are some places that can be farmed with a 55, though...if that's what floats your boat. It's just a matter of time until they're all found.

"55" is a common farming build where one uses a bunch of superior runes to acheive 105 maximum hp. They then use an offhand which gives -50hp, totalling to 55 max.
It sounds suicidal, but there are certain skills which actually become better by miles for solo'ing with the setup. Protective Spirit being the main one.

Theres not really any farming places yet because

2) If someone found a farming area chances are there not gonna tell everyone

To the OP:
Doh! This game was not made for farming, and this game was not made for running through it. Anet realized the bastardization of the original game concept and designed Factions to counter this as best as it could.
Running in the Factions area is no longer possible because the paths are blocked to players until they have performed the primary quest for that point of the game. Yay! Way to go Anet! This is what I wish they did long ago on the Prophecies side!
If there is nothing to farm either, well, then maybe more game server time will be spent on people playing the quests and missions and Factions battles instead of farming.

While I have been wandering the desert getting my exploration percentage up I have been attempting to farm various types of beasties with a standard griff farmer build.
Then I noticed that there are tons of griffons everywhere - just off the beaten track a bit.
And enchanted bows/hammer/sword drop a fair few runes.
Not really tried in cantha yet, still running into walls and having to go back all the time to get stuck henchies..

In all fairness, this community as a whole needs to understand farming. I love to farm. I do not particularly need to; however, I enjoy it. It is a chance to play with some friends and do something relaxing that is productive in the game as well. I realize ANet is not all about farming so they make the game play so that you do not NEED to farm. People out there just do it because they like to. That should not bother anyone. I fail to see the reason why people are so hell bent on flaming farmers and giving them a hard time about it.
Furthermore, what is the end game for GW? In prophecies you could get to the more difficult missions and gain access to FoW and UW. Those areas are really just for farming. They just require unique builds (55, 5 man oro, etc.) or skilled teams. The only real point to doing those areas was to farm though.
This game is SORT OF an MMO. Everyone likes to play it their own way. If people want to farm then more power to them. I fail to see a problem with it; it really isn't hurting anyone.
Sorry that was way off topic. So to the OP, I think this just needs some time to be figured out. 55 may not work as well in Cantha, but I am sure that the community will come up with something else. Who knows what will be next but GW has a very creative player base and someone will come up with something shortly.

You do realize that most quests are non repeatable, do you? And the 13 missions in the game won't keep you entertained forever, too.
Honestly, I still have no idea why some people here insist on forcing their prefered gamestyle on others. It's probably the most arrogant thing you can do in a computer game. GW is desgined that you don't NEED to farm, that still doesn't mean that you MUSN'T farm in GW. Some people just like it, you know?

Farming ruins the economy!
The only way to get decent drops was to farm by the end of prophecies, at the beginning you got them every now and again!
I mean so far ive got most of what i need from quest pickups in 5 or less teams,
so far ive salvaged enough to buy me two sets of max armor and buy keys from which i got my weapons by spending - no money whatsoever.
I do understand though, i think the most important thing for Anet to do is give somthing for players to do which gives decent rewards in factions, in prophecies this was compleatly absent.

Farming would be fine if people would stop demanding massive amounts of gold for items they farmed in the first place! Basically it forces people to farm who don't like to farm in order to afford these over-priced items!
In anycase I'll be recreating a Mo/W at any rate. My W/Mo just doesn't seem to cut it as well as 55 Monks do.
